Ahmed Fouly of Egypt, Vice President of World Taekwondo, has passed away at the age of 70. Besides being president of the Egyptian Taekwondo Federation, Fouly had also been President of World Taekwondo Africa.
Chungwon Choue, President of World Taekwondo, credited Fouly with the rise of African taekwondo competitors on the world stage noting the five medals African athletes won at the 2016 summer Olympics. Prior to this, the continent had never had more than one medal winner for taekwondo at any Olympics. Fouly, who'd been Vice President of World Taekwondo since 2004, had suffered a severe heart attack last month with his condition deteriorating since then.
