The seemingly ageless Jose Aldo won his third straight fight at bantamweight Saturday claiming unanimous decision over Rob Font in the main event of UFC on ESPN 31. Font started well against the former featherweight champion working behind a strong jab that kept Aldo on his back foot and allowed Font to consistently land sharp punches. But with 30 seconds left in the first round, Aldo threw a stiff left jab and immediately followed with a powerful straight right hand that dropped Font though time ran out before he could do more damage.
Between rounds Font's corner told him to keep backing Aldo up and he did for much of the second but whenever he eased off, Aldo moved forward landing hard punches. Meanwhile, Aldo followed his corner's instructions to the letter coming out firing vicious legs kicks, at their urging, to start the third. When Font missed on a takedown, Aldo trapped him on the mat and controlled him for most of the round. The final two rounds were much the same as Font had his moments but inevitably ended up on the ground beneath Aldo who rode him out to take the decision.
