In a recent interview on The Jim Rome Show, Dana White, the CEO of UFC, officially announced that the middleweight championship will be contested at UFC 305 as main event. The event is set to take place on August 17 at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, featuring champion Dricus Du Plessis and former titleholder Israel Adesanya.
"August 17 in Perth. Now it's official," confirmed White during the show.
This will be Du Plessis’s first title defense since he secured the championship from Sean Strickland at UFC 297 in Toronto. On the other hand, Adesanya is aiming to make history by becoming the first fighter to achieve three separate title reigns within the same division, a feat only previously accomplished by Randy Couture.
UFC 305 marks the third UFC Pay-Per-View event in Perth, following the successful UFC 221 and the record-setting UFC 284 events held in the city.
Additionally, White touched upon various topics during the interview, including Conor McGregor’s status, recent challenges in arranging short-notice main events, Khamzat Chimaev’s health issues, and other UFC-related news.
