ONE 167: Tawanchai vs. Nattawut II delivered as promised. The 10 bouts on the docket satisfied fans with back-and-forth battles and several memorable finishes. Here are the results from ONE 167.
Tawanchai PK Saenchai and "Smokin" Jo Nattawut had a razor-thin kickboxing match last year, and their Muay Thai rematch was even closer. Tawanchai stormed out to an early lead, but Nattawut rebounded to make it a winner-take-all fifth round.
Ultimately, Tawanchai squeaked by on the judge's scorecards for a majority decision victory. Many fans saw it for the challenger, and ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated he would love to see a third encounter later this year when ONE debuts in Atlanta for ONE 170.
Rodtang Jitmuangnon returned to action in a flyweight kickboxing war with Denis Puric. The Canadian-Bosnian pushed the Thai star, but Rodtang was always out in front. "The Iron Man" was emotional after the match but thanked his fans for their support as he recovered from injury.
Rodtang was clear about what he wants next: a kickboxing super-fight with Takeru Segawa. The highly anticipated encounter is still at the top of fans' wishlists, and it appears that "The Iron Man" is ready to grant them the match they most want to see.
ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci was fired up for his bantamweight match against Gabriel Sousa. The Brazilian was the last man to defeat Musumeci in 2021, and a rivalry has brewed since then.
Musumeci ended the match in just 3:07 with a calf slicer. After the match, Musumeci cut a scathing promo on bullies and why this bout got him geared up. He will have an even greater challenge at ONE 168: Denver when he moves up to lightweight to challenge ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Champion Kade Ruotolo.
Speaking of Ruotolo, he made his MMA debut against Blake Cooper and needed less than a round to secure the submission. The Californian got to show off some of his striking before taking the match to the canvas and submitting the Hawaiian.
Also making his MMA debut, Adrian Lee continued his family's winning tradition with a second-round rear-naked choke over Antonio Mammarella. Lee showcased his quick transitions from striking to grappling and maintained control of the bout throughout.
Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong made sure Masaaki Noiri did not have a successful promotional debut. The Thai star started quickly and peppered the Japanese striker with stiff leg kicks. After nine minutes, Sitthichai defended his spot among the featherweight elite and won unanimously.
ONE 167 was supposed to be Denice Zamboanga's time for the main event against Stamp Fairtex. After the Thai star was injured in camp, Zamboanga remained on the card against Noelle Grandjean. The Filipina sent a strong message to Stamp that she is ready for her shot at gold with a three-round domination of her foe, earning a clear unanimous decision.
Teen sensation Johan Ghazali put forth a valiant effort against Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat, but the Vietnamese star showed him that he still has more work to do before ascending to the top of the flyweight division. Duy Nhat bested the Malaysian-American over three rounds for a decision win.
In the most stunning performance of the night, Victoria Souza shocked Itsuki Hirata by guillotine in the first round. As the two got close, Souza jumped on an early choke and had a tight squeeze. With no sweat to aid in popping her head out, Hirata was put to sleep for a first-round submission upset.
Johan Estupinan made good on his quick turnaround with a three-round victory over Zafer Sayik. The talented striker started hot with a fast-paced first round and settled into a rhythm after Sayik proved he wouldn't go quietly. In the end, Estupinan got the W with a unanimous decision while entertaining the fans with flips off the Circle wall.
ONE 167 can be re-lived in full on-demand with Prime Video.
