Rodtang ONE

Rodtang "The Iron Man" Jitmuangnon is not just the reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion. He is one of the figureheads of ONE Championship's ONE Super Series.

And for good reason.

The Thai icon is a crowd favorite with unrelenting aggression and impeccable technique. "The Iron Man" has thrilled fans everywhere he has been and showcased his forward-moving style to a global audience earlier in 2021 on the ONE on TNT series.

But what fans may not know is his story of triumph outside of the ONE Circle.

In this video, courtesy of ONE, learn about how Rodtang overcame two tragedies outside of competition on his road to becoming one of the world's most feared and respected strikers.

The UNTOLD STORY Of Rodtang 🙏

In 2018, Rodtang lost one of his mentors, Huan Jitmuangnon, due to a sudden heart attack. However, Rodtang used his motivations following the tragic death to bring home the ONE gold to his camp. A year later, the Thai star defeated Jonathan Haggerty to claim the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title.

The following year before a rematch with Haggerty, Rodtang found out his father had Stage 3 cancer. Neither his father nor mother had ever seen him compete on the global stage before, but "The Iron Man" brought them to the epic rematch so that they could cherish the memories of their son doing what he does best.

In front of his parents, Rodtang put Haggerty away and defended his title.

Watch the amazing video to see highlights from the two incredible bouts with Haggerty and get an inside look at how Rodtang overcoming heartbreak has led him on his charge to the top of the world.

The 2021 Diamond Nationals took place on October 8th and 9th, the first time the prestigious event has been hosted since 2019. World class competitors gathered in Minneapolis, Minnesota to test their skills in forms, weapons, point sparring, and more.

In the early 2010's, Ken Warner (otherwise known as ZenInc on YouTube) always shared his "Top Five" on Facebook after major sport karate events. Reflecting on these posts has inspired me to write a top five article of my own for the Diamond Nationals, and I plan to continue writing these articles after each tournament I attend. Special thanks to Ken Warner for his contributions to documenting sport karate history. Without further ado, here is Jackson's Five for the Diamond Nationals.
