Jose ‘Shorty’ Torres, the former BRAVE Combat Federation Bantamweight Champion, wrapped up 2024 with a bang by clinching a thrilling victory at RIZIN 49 on New Year’s Eve. Representing BRAVE CF on Japanese soil, Torres proved why he’s a force to be reckoned with, and now, he’s fired up to do it all over again—this time with even bigger stakes.

Fresh off his impressive win, Torres didn’t hold back when discussing his future plans. He officially reaffirmed his commitment to the Flyweight division—a move he had teased after completing his intense trilogy with Nkosi Ndebele. Now, with his triumphant return and a successful weight cut under his belt, Torres has placed the BRAVE CF Flyweight division on high alert.

“I’m happy to end the year on a high note,” said an elated Torres. “This fight was a test to see if I could make Flyweight, and I nailed it. I made the weight easily, hydrated well, and felt great. My next fight will definitely be at Flyweight.”

But Torres isn’t just thinking about BRAVE CF gold—he’s got his eyes set on something even more electrifying: a potential Flyweight Grand Prix in Japan, with a high-profile showdown against his former teammate and Japanese MMA icon, Kyoji Horiguchi.

Kyoji Horiguchi

“Collaborating with BRAVE CF and RIZIN again would be amazing,” Torres shared. “I’d love to fight some legends, especially Kyoji Horiguchi. We trained together at American Top Team, and facing him in the Flyweight Grand Prix would be exciting for both of us.”

Horiguchi, a household name in Japanese MMA with an impressive 34-5 record, remains unbeaten since 2022. He also walked away victorious at RIZIN 49, winning by decision—fueling speculation of a future clash with Torres that would surely set the MMA world on fire.

As 2025 dawns, Torres is riding high on momentum and laser-focused on making the year unforgettable. Whether it’s a BRAVE CF title run or a headline-making showdown in Japan, one thing’s for sure—‘Shorty’ Torres is ready to deliver fireworks once again. Stay tuned!
