While the action film market has been dominated by a select few countries, smaller players are starting to make a big splash. This movie out of South Africa is a solid example that Hollywood (or even Bollywood) doesn’t need to be behind every successful action flick.
“Heart of The Hunter” via Netflix is an on-screen adaptation of the book of the same name, written by Deon Meyer. We are seeing similar premises pop up all over the streaming land: retired agent/assassin/warrior comes back to avenge something…and we aren’t mad about it at all. It’s the “John Wick” formula that brought us recent action thrills like “The Beekeeper.”
Here’s the premise: “a retired assassin is pulled back into action when his friend uncovers a dangerous conspiracy at the heart of the South African government.” Sounds like a wild ride. And it is.
