The January 1987 issue featured Hatsumi Masaaki, best known as the modern grandmaster of Ninjutsu.

Born on December 2, 1931, Hatsumi is the founder of the Bujinkan Organization and the former soke (head) of the Togakure-ryū lineage. His influence extended beyond martial arts dojos—he even served as a consultant on early James Bond films, bringing the art of the ninja to the big screen!

In recognition of his contributions, he was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame in 1986.
