Seattle Wushu: Confidence Through Knowledge
The vibrant city of Seattle, Washington, known for the tech revolution and outdoor lifestyle has another location to be proud of--Seattle Wu Shu. This training facility is located in Seattle's best-kept secret neighborhood, West Seattle, situated just to the southwest of Downtown.
Founded in 1991 as the Inner Concepts Martial Arts, the school pivoted to Seattle Wun Hop Kuen Do, eventually becoming Seattle Wu Shu in 2007 by founder and Co-Chief instructor Restita DeJesus.
Sifu DeJesus started training in 1978 Butokukan Karate moving to KaJukenbo in 1990 under Terry Faircloth. A serial student of the arts, she has also diligently trained in Kyu-do Archery, Doces Pares Eskrima, Wushu, and Tai Chi focusing on Chen, and Yang style, as well as northern and southern fist. With a strong expertise in the multi-disciplines, it allows a unique perspective to offer students a blend or variety of art forms.
In early 2020, the school brought on World Champion Kathy Long who settled in Seattle and began a legacy of teaching kickboxing and Kung Fu San Soo. Long teaches her art form with a strong emphasis on self-defense, an art form that aligns with the school’s philosophy.
Thriving today with more than one hundred dedicated active students, and hundreds more who come through to train in seminars led by the dynamic duo. The center offers more than 20 classes a week in a multi-discipline approach that includes Kajukenbo, Kung Fu San San Soo, Tai Chi, Kickboxing, and Doces Pares Eskrima.
All of our classes are constantly growing, said Dejesus. Having Kathy is such an honor as she brings such a depth of knowledge and experience to her teaching. Everyone is so excited she has made the Pacific Northwest her home!
The motto "Confidence & Strength Through Knowledge" was chosen to pay homage to the knowledge taught through all of the arts taught at the studio.
