Black Belt Magazine salutes Sammo Hung for his Lifetime Achievement Award

In the vibrant tapestry of Hong Kong cinema, few figures shine as brightly as Sammo Hung Kam-bo, a titan whose legacy spans continents and generations. He was recently honored on April 14  at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards in Hong Kong  with a prestigious lifetime achievement award, recognizing his profound impact on the Hong Kong cinema landscape.

With an illustrious career spanning over 40 years, he has showcased his talents as an actor, director, producer, martial arts choreographer, and action director, solidifying his status as an icon in the industry.


We were first introduced to this emerging superstar in the opening fight scene of the iconic "Enter the Dragon," where he faced off against Bruce Lee.

Sammo’s path to stardom was paved with discipline and dedication. At the renowned Peking Opera, also known as the Chinese Drama Academy, he honed his craft alongside luminaries like Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao. Here, amidst the whirlwind of martial arts and acrobatics, Hung absorbed the stylized movements of Chinese opera, laying the groundwork for his future as a martial arts film icon.

From the iconic IP Man2, Millionaires Express, My Lucky Stars to the adrenaline-fueled The Bodyguard, his performances are legendary in every way.
