Black Belt Magazine, the premier and longest-running martial arts publication, is thrilled to celebrate the inductees for the Black Belt Hall of Fame Class of 2024!


Since its launch in 1968, the Black Belt Hall of Fame has been dedicated to honoring individuals whose extraordinary contributions have greatly influenced the martial arts community. Among the esteemed past inductees are legends such as Bruce Lee (Class of 1972), Bill Wallace (Class of 1973), Chuck Norris (Class of 1975), and Cynthia Rothrock (Class of 1983, who also received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022).


This year’s induction ceremony will be held on October 10, 2024, at the historic Avalon Theater in Hollywood, California. The event will feature presentations from some of the most celebrated past inductees, adding to the ceremony's grandeur.

His influence extends beyond the mat, as he has trained Hollywood icons like Chuck Norris, Vin Diesel, and Ashton Kutcher.


Rigan’s ability to adapt his teaching to meet the unique needs of celebrities has brought BJJ into the limelight, demonstrating his exceptional skill as both a practitioner and instructor.





Carlos Machado
The Pioneer of BJJ in Texas
Carlos Machado

Carlos Machado, acclaimed as “the Godfather of BJJ in Texas,” has been a pivotal figure in spreading Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu across the United States. His competitive accolades include victories at the Pan American Championships and a record-setting performance at the ADCC.


Carlos’s move to Dallas was transformative for BJJ in Texas. Operating from the same building as Chuck Norris’s Walker, Texas Ranger studio, Carlos played a key role in teaching and choreographing BJJ scenes for the show. His extensive affiliate program has expanded BJJ’s reach, establishing him as a central figure in martial arts both nationally and internationally.

His approach combines classical techniques with modern strategies, influencing a new generation of practitioners. Jean Jacques’s contributions have been crucial in keeping BJJ dynamic and relevant, solidifying his role as a leading figure in the sport.
