Mark Jacobs

Mark Jacobs is a freelance writer and longtime practitioner of the martial arts.
 


As a black belt in goju-ryu karate and a graduate of the University of Miami master’s program in journalism, Mark Jacobs brings his unique combination of serious journalism and martial arts expertise to his Black Belt Far East column every month. Jacobs began studying karate at age 12 and has extensively trained in boxing, kickboxing, shootfighting, the Gene LeBell grappling system and kali. Along with writing for Sports Illustrated, Men’s Health and Time Out New York, he also co-wrote two books, Shootfighting: The Ultimate Marital Art with Bart Vale, and How to Break Into Pro Wrestling with Gene LeBell.
